Enugu State Government Vows to Honor Mr Ibu and Junior Pope with Remarkable Burials

The recent heart-wrenching deaths of Nollywood icons John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor and Junior Pope have left the Nigerian entertainment industry in mourning.

The Enugu State Government has pledged to provide both stars a ‘befitting burial’ to honor their remarkable contributions to the world of film.

Mr Ibu, 62, passed away on March 2 after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest at Evercare Hospital in Lagos.

His family has confirmed that his burial will take place on June 28.

On the other hand, Junior Pope tragically died in a boat accident on April 10 in the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State, while en route to a filming location.

He was accompanied by four other crew members who also lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

In a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Aka Eze Aka, the Enugu State Commissioner for Information, described their deaths as a “terrible blow to the government of Enugu.”

He emphasized that the state government is committed to providing the Nollywood celebrities with a “befitting burial.”

Although a specific date for Junior Pope’s burial has yet to be determined, the commissioner stated that the government is collaborating closely with his family to organize the ceremony.

“Being a part of his burial committee on an individual capacity, I will relate to the government what the family wants,” he said.

The commissioner also highlighted that the state government would be represented during Mr Ibu’s burial.

The government has also opened a condolence register to allow fans to express their grief and pay their respects to the late actor.

The tragic loss of Mr Ibu and Junior Pope has deeply affected the entire nation.

The Enugu State Government’s decision to honor them with remarkable burials demonstrates their significant impact on the Nollywood industry and the hearts of their fans.
