Emeka Rollas, AGN President, Vows Legal Action Against Adanma Luke Over Junior Pope’s Death

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has announced plans to sue Nollywood movie producer, Adanma Luke, over the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of popular actor John Paul Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope, and four other crew members.

The group drowned after their boat capsized on Anam River in Anambra State on April 10, 2024, while returning from a movie shoot.

In an interview with Arise TV, Rollas expressed his determination to take legal action against Adanma Luke, stating that their lawyers are already preparing the necessary documents.

He is awaiting a report from a committee set up to investigate the boat accident before proceeding with legal action against the producer and the Association of Movie Producers.

Rollas also highlighted the lack of safety measures on set, noting that some actors still traveled by boat without life jackets even after the tragedy.

He emphasized the importance of professionalism in the industry, urging producers to take responsibility for the safety and well-being of their cast and crew.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety practices within the Nigerian film industry, prompting calls for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent future accidents.

The tragic deaths of Junior Pope and the other crew members have cast a spotlight on the need for better safety measures and adherence to industry standards.

As the investigation into the accident continues, the Actors Guild of Nigeria and the wider Nollywood community await the results of the committee’s findings.

The outcome may have significant implications for the future of the industry and the safety of those who work within it.
