The Action Peoples Party in Osun State has raised serious concerns about electoral security ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Party chairman Odesola Oluseye Titus issued a statement on Sunday calling on INEC to strengthen its technological systems.
According to him, the party wants immediate action to secure all election-related technology. He cited three key areas: verification of voters' registers, proper functioning of card readers, and protection of electoral data from unauthorised access.
"We urge INEC to take immediate action to ensure that all the technological systems related to the electoral process are secured against fraudulent activities," Titus said in the statement. He noted that every eligible voter must be allowed to participate freely in the poll.
APP demanded that INEC remain vigilant against technical challenges during voting. The party stressed that the electoral body must uphold transparency and prevent any form of technical tampering.
Osun residents have expressed alarm at reports from the recent Ekiti State governorship election. Technical irregularities during that poll have raised questions about the reliability of electoral practices, according to APP.
"The residents of Osun State have observed with increasing alarm the alleged technical irregularities that were reported during the recent Ekiti State Governorship Election," the statement read. These concerns are prompting calls for greater scrutiny of technology in future elections.
Titus warned that Osun people will not accept manipulation through technological means. He stressed that democratic integrity remains paramount in any election.
"We want to emphasise unequivocally that the people of Osun State will not tolerate any form of technical rigging or manipulation that compromises the democratic process," he stated. The party vowed to mobilise against any attempts at voter disenfranchisement or result manipulation.
"The people of Osun State are watching closely, and we will not hesitate to mobilise against any strategies aimed at disenfranchising voters or manipulating the August 15 governorship election result," Titus added. His words reflected growing anxieties within the political landscape.
APP called on INEC to provide public assurances about the election's integrity. The party expressed hope that the August 15 poll would meet the highest standards of fairness and transparency.
