Electoral Act Amendment Bill Passes Second Reading in House of Representatives

In a significant development for Nigeria’s electoral system, the House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill for Second Reading.

The Bill, which aims to make crucial amendments to the Electoral Act of 2022, was sponsored by Mr Francis Waive, the member representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency, Delta State.

During the presentation of the Bill, Waive emphasized the need for change in the current electoral process, citing various challenges faced by the country.

The Bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act, 2022 and for Related Matters,” seeks to address these issues and improve the overall electoral system in Nigeria.

The passage of the Bill for Second Reading is a crucial step in the legislative process, and it demonstrates the House of Representatives’ commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in the country.

The Bill will now be subjected to further scrutiny and debate before it is put to a vote for final approval.

The proposed amendments to the Electoral Act of 2022 are expected to bring about significant improvements in the electoral process, including the adoption of more transparent and efficient voting methods, enhanced security measures, and increased voter education and participation.

As the Bill progresses through the legislative process, the public will be watching closely to see if the House of Representatives will ultimately pass the Bill into law.

If approved, these amendments could have a profound impact on Nigeria’s democratic journey, paving the way for more transparent and credible elections in the future.
