Aisha Yesufu, an activist and NDC chieftain, has blasted the EFCC for ignoring vote-buying schemes. She made the accusation on Saturday via social media posts.

Yesufu reacted sharply to reports of vote-buying during Ekiti's ongoing gubernatorial election. She argued the practice should be decriminalised across Nigeria.

According to her, law-abiding citizens bear the brunt of electoral fraud in the country. Candidates who purchase votes escape punishment while honest voters suffer consequences.

"At this rate, vote buying should be decriminalized in Nigeria," she posted on X. "It does not make sense since it is those who are law abiding that gets punished for it!"

Yesufu noted that the EFCC's oversight appears compromised during elections. She suggested candidates abandon expensive campaigns altogether.

"Instead of candidates wasting money on campaigns, let everyone wait for Election Day and bargain," she wrote. "The highest bidder wins and you save your money."

Electoral irregularities have plagued Ekiti's gubernatorial race. Dare Bejide, the ADC candidate, alleged vote-buying and cash distribution at his polling unit.

Police and INEC officials declined to respond to Bejide's allegations. The claims remain unaddressed as voting continues across the state.
