Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the PDP had planned to hold a town hall meeting with the South South delegates of the party at Grand Hotel, but trouble started when some political thugs allegedly by the state government disrupted the meeting.

It was learnt that the clash between the youths and the delegates forced the Sheriff’s faction to move the town hall meeting to Agbor, the stronghold of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who is a member of the faction led by Senator Ahmed Markafi’s caretaker committee, where they were received by thousand supporters.

Speaking to ADVOCATE in a telephone on who do they think sent the thugs after them, Dr. Ojougboh stated that Governor Okowa was afraid, he then sent some thugs to disrupt the meeting at Asaba because of what the outcome of the town hall meeting will do to his dwindling hold on some of the members of the party in Delta.

In his word: “Without mincing word I can tell you that it was Governor Ifeanyi Okowa that sent thugs to disturb our meetings at Asaba, but we left the venue for him quietly because we don’t want to fight with him, we want our people to judge him by his actions, which could have led to the breakdown of law and order.

“We are not diplomatic about it; it was Governor Ifeanyi Okowa that sent his thugs to disrupt the meeting of PDP party faithful, which is a very sad commentary. He is afraid, so we took it to Agbor. And I can tell you that the meeting is the most successful political party meeting ever held in Delta State.

He added that to avoid breakdown of law and order the meeting was moved to Agbor and adding that the meeting at Agbor was very successful, “we had over 5000 PDP faithful who came to the meeting, ask your fellow journalist who came to  Agbor, it was very successful.

“I also want to correct an impression, there is no faction in the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, remains the National Chairman of the PDP, anybody claiming that he is a member of PDP and is not with us, would have himself to blame.

Debunking Dr. Cairo Ojougboh’s claim, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Charles Aniagwu stated that they don’t want to join issues with Ojougboh, describing the allegation as laughable and frivolous.

He noted that the Governor Okowa is busy working hard to change the fortune of Delta State, to have time to engage in such trivial issues.

In his word: “We are too big to involve in those things, we are too busy with governance and how to improve the lots of Delta and Deltans, to get involved in such trivial things, and in any case, it is an unfounded and frivolous allegation.”
