Novak Djokovic made history on Sunday by winning his fourth US Open and record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title with a straight-sets victory against Daniil Medvedev. The Serbian star defeated the Russian world No. 2 in a dominant display of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
Djokovic was in control of the match from the start, breaking Medvedev’s serve in the second game and holding his own with ease. He wrapped up the first set in 36 minutes with another break, as Medvedev struggled to cope with his opponent’s power and precision.
Medvedev congratulated Djokovic on his historic achievement and said he was proud of his performance despite the loss. He also praised Djokovic for his sportsmanship and kindness.
Djokovic will now aim to break Court’s record and win his 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January, where he has won 10 times before. He will also try to reclaim his Wimbledon crown and challenge for his second French Open title next year.
