Dissolution of UPU Exco by the Ivie is an aberration-Omene led UPU ***Says the Ivie are meddlesome interlopers

The leadership of the Chief Joe Omene led Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, has described the dissolution  national executive of the union by 22 out of the 24 monarchs of the various Urhobo kingdoms as an aberration and affront on the Union constitution.Chief Joe Omene UPU led Exco during this year UPU Day

In a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting of the National Executive and Council of Representatives of UPU held at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho signed by Chief Joe Omene, President-General, Chief Albert Akpomude (SAN) National Secretary, Chief Mike Okenini, Publicity Secretary, Hon. Justice Jonathan Shakerho and seven others.

They stated that, the union is a corporate body dully registered under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with perpetual succession and registered Trustees, and that all members of the union are bound by it constitution.

Adding that, “under the UPU Constitution, nobody or group of persons, no matter how highly placed or whatever they think or imagine of themselves, have control over the Urhobo Progress Union to arrogate to themselves the power to dissolve the National Executive of the Union. They are at best meddlesome interlopers.

They maintained that according to the, “UPU Constitution, no valid meeting of the Union can be held under any guise to take any decision affecting the Union without the presence of the President General and/ or the National Secretary who are the only persons that can constitutionally summon a meeting of UPU.”

They stated further that; “there is no provision in the UPU Constitution for the dissolution of the National Executive of the Union except through an election which holds in every three years.”

Adding that the, “tenure of the current National Executive will come to an end in the 1st week of December, 2016 when election will be held for those interested to take over and who can only be eligible to vote or be voted for by virtue of being members of the Union.

“The alleged dissolution of the National Executive by a group of people not recognized and/or provided for under the constitution of the Union is to say the least an aberration and an unwarranted affront against the legally constituted National Executive of the Union under the leadership of Chief Joe Omene.”

They equally alleged that the leadership of UPU was, “reliably informed that the unconstitutional and illegal meeting was sponsored by within and external forces with paid agents to destabilized UPU and by extension the Urhobo Nation.

“UPU is not unmindful that these enemies of the Urhobo Nation got peanuts to carry out the planned destabilization of UPU and their names what was used to induce them may soon be made public to the Urhobo people.”

Meanwhile, they advise members of the public and the Urhobo people to disregard and ignore purported dissolution of the UPU Exco by a group of persons not recognized by the union constitution.
