Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu Declares His Turn for Edo State Governorship

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has declared that it is now his turn to take the helm as the Governor of the state.

This announcement comes as the current Governor, Godwin Obaseki, is set to step down from his position, and the race for the next gubernatorial election in 2024 is already heating up.

Speaking to a private television broadcast station in Lagos, Shaibu, who hails from Edo North Senatorial District, expressed his intention to contest the governorship on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He emphasized that a divine conviction to serve the people and bring government back to the people drives his desire to be the state’s leader.

The Deputy Governor also took the opportunity to express remorse over his choice of words used against a former Governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in the past.

He stressed that despite their political differences, Oshiomhole remains his father, and he is grateful for the guidance and support he has received from him.

In other news, the Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has explained the reduction in the 2024 budget of the Deputy Governor.

According to Agbebaku, only N354 million was allocated to Shaibu’s office because he had no work to do in the coming year.

The Speaker added that Governor Obaseki had relocated most of the Deputy Governor’s functions to other offices.

As the political landscape of Edo State continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu’s gubernatorial ambitions will play out.

With the 2024 elections on the horizon, it is clear that the race for the Edo State Governorship is already starting to take shape.
