Police in Delta State have arrested a man named Joe following the death of his girlfriend in his apartment.
The woman's body was found on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in the suspect's residence on Ajidi Street in Edjeba Community, Warri.
According to residents, the couple had been staying together for several days before the tragic incident occurred.
Neighbours saw the woman walking around the area just one day before she died. She appeared perfectly fine at the time.
"We saw the lady yesterday. She was walking around and looked normal.
Nobody expected that by this morning she would be dead. It is a very painful situation," one resident told reporters.
In the early hours of Wednesday, people in the neighbourhood heard strange screams coming from Joe's apartment. A landlord immediately alerted security officials about the disturbance.
When police officers arrived and searched the residence, they discovered the woman's lifeless body in the suspect's room.
Authorities took Joe into custody for questioning. Her body was transported to a mortuary for medical examination and an autopsy.
Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command's spokesperson, acknowledged the incident when reporters reached out to him. He declined to provide additional details at this time.
