Dangote Refinery Set to Begin Operations as Final Crude Shipment Arrives

The Dangote Refinery in Nigeria has announced its readiness to commence production, following the arrival of the sixth and final shipment of crude oil.

The last consignment of one million barrels of crude oil arrived on January 8th, 2024, completing the initial six million barrels required to kick-start the refining process.

The Dangote Refinery, a $20 billion project, is expected to play a pivotal role in alleviating the fuel supply challenges faced by Nigeria and the West African region.

The facility, which is designed to process Nigerian crude with the flexibility to handle other grades as well, is capable of meeting 100% of Nigeria’s requirement for refined products, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel.

With production set to begin, the Dangote Refinery is poised to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape and boost the country’s economy.

The facility is expected to produce 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with the first batch of gasoline and diesel products anticipated to be available by mid-January 2024.
