Dafinone hosts LIF, Eye Care experts in push for stronger healthcare delivery in Delta Central

Senator Ede Dafinone has reinforced efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Delta Central Senatorial District, hosting a high-level delegation from the Livelihood Impact Fund (LIF) and national eye care authorities at his Abuja office.

The engagement, led by LIF Executive Director, Abigail Steinberg, focused on expanding strategic collaboration to build a more sustainable and inclusive health system, particularly in eye care.

LIF’s intervention aligns with ongoing national reforms in preventable vision care. As a foundational partner in the Presidential Initiative on Eyeglasses (Jigi Bola 2.0), the organisation supported the distribution of 1.3 million free reading glasses across 10 states, including Delta State, within the past year.

Beyond eyeglasses distribution, LIF has contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s primary healthcare framework by supporting the training of over 2,200 Primary Health Care workers nationwide. The trained personnel now conduct basic eye screenings and dispense reading glasses at the community level, ensuring continuity and accessibility.

The initiative is part of the National Eye Health Strategic Development Plan (2024–2028), which aims to integrate eye care into Nigeria’s Primary Healthcare system and improve access to essential services for underserved populations.

In a related development, Senator Dafinone also received Dr. Oteri Okolo, National Coordinator of the National Eye Health Programme at the Federal Ministry of Health. Discussions centred on practical measures to enhance healthcare outcomes, with particular emphasis on Delta Central communities.

Speaking during the meeting, Senator Dafinone stressed the importance of collaboration in driving sustainable development.

He reiterated his commitment to partnerships that deliver measurable benefits, noting that improved healthcare access remains a critical pillar of wellbeing, productivity, and long-term socio-economic progress.
