Cricket: Nigeria withdraw from T20 Continental Cup

By Ijeoma  Okigbo

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has withdrawn its senior men’s team from the upcoming T20 Continental Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.

Musa Ehizoje, the federation’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the federation could not meet up with the contract requirements by the organizers in time.

The tournament is due to begin on Friday and end on June 21 with six teams participating.

But the withdrawal of Nigeria’s team from the event means only five teams will compete.

“The federation could not sort out contract agreements in time for the event. The time-frame was not sufficient to look at all sides of the contract by the organisers of the event.

“Based on this and a few other considerations, the federation decided to pull out,” Ehizoie said.

Meanwhile, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana and hosts Kenya are expected to feature in the event.
