Court Halts Emefiele’s Re-Arrest, EFCC Rejects N100m Fine

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has declared the prolonged detention of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, without trial as a flagrant violation of his fundamental rights.

The court slammed a hefty N100 million fine against the Federal Government and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for their role in the unlawful detention.

Following Emefiele’s protracted detention in the Department of State Services’ (DSS) custody, he filed a fundamental human rights lawsuit, and the court decided in his favor.

The court also restrained the FG and its agents from rearresting or detaining Emefiele without an order of the court.

However, the EFCC has expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment and vowed to appeal the N100 million fine.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency argued that Emefiele’s detention was lawful and that they will continue to pursue justice in the matter.

The case has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many questioning the motives behind the government’s actions.

Some have even called for a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover the truth and ensure that justice is served.

As the saga continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the Emefiele saga is far from over.

The former CBN governor’s fate now lies in the hands of the courts, and it remains to be seen how this high-profile case will ultimately play out.
