The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that it will partially disconnect Globacom (Glo) from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc due to unpaid interconnect charges.
This decision comes after Glo failed to settle the outstanding debt despite repeated attempts at resolution.
According to a public notice signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, the NCC granted partial approval for the disconnection of Glo from MTN lines.
This means that Glo subscribers will not be able to make calls to MTN numbers, although they will still be able to calls from MTN users.
All other network functionalities, including outgoing calls to other networks and data services, will remain operational for Glo customers.
The NCC has given a 10-day notice for this disconnection, which will take effect from January 18, 2024.
The commission stated that it had examined the circumstances surrounding the unpaid interconnect charges and found that Glo lacked sufficient or justifiable reasons for non-payment.
This decision by the NCC is aimed at ensuring that interconnect charges are paid in a timely manner, as they are essential for the smooth functioning of the telecommunications industry.
