Princess Olabisi Adebajo, Executive Chairman, Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, has advised secondary School students in the community to shun cultism and drug abuse.

Adebajo gave the advice during a one-day enlightenment campaign at Alimosho Grammar School, Ipaja, Lagos on Wednesday.

The council boss said that cultism and drug abuse were vices that destroyed the promising future of the young people, adding that the youth should flee from those vices.

According to her, avoiding such social vices will enable the youth to contribute to their grassroots development and Nigeria at large.

”We appreciate the school for organising such campaign because this is the right time to catch the young ones and tell them why they should not indulge in drug abuse and cultism.

”The problems associated with these vices are so enormous to quantify. We all know that even in our society, people are not sure of their safety because cult activities are everywhere.

”After this seminar, if anyone approaches you to join cultism or indulge in drug abuse you should be able to say ‘no’ because of the dangers that go with these vices,” she said.

Also, Mr Ayo Orimolade, the Secretary of the Council, warned the students on the dangers in indulging in bad habits.

Orimolade appealed to the students to face their studies and shun any habit that could truncate their careers in the future.

Similarly, Olasunkanmi Adekola, the Deputy Leader of the Council’s Legislature, urged the students to imbibe good cultural values in the school and in the larger society.

Responding, Damilola Lawal, one of the senior students of the school, thanked the school management for organising the enlightenment programme.

Lawal also expressed appreciation to the council chairman for her advice to the students on the dangers of cultism and drug abuse.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the enlightenment was organised by the school’s counselors, to sustain the peace in schools and communities.

The programme had as its theme, ”Changing From Negative Behaviour To Positive Behaviour.
