Cognitive placement examinations to be more credible and reliable-Delta Commissioner

The Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Ebie Chiedu has said Items generated for the Cognitive/Placement Examination for Primary six pupils and the Basic Certificate Examinations for JSS 3 students will now be more reliable, valid and credible.

Mr. Chiedu Ebie, made this known when he declared open a workshop on the ‘Generation of Test Items for the 2018 Cognitive/Placement Examinations and the Basic Education Certificate Examinations’ (BECE), for selected teachers in the State at the St Patrick’s College Hall, Asaba.The Commissioner said his ministry would endeavour to sustain the established standards that have been set in the Education Sector of the State, noting  that the workshop was aimed at reviewing past evaluative instruments viz a viz the generation of new test items in other to enrich the question bank for these examinations.

He said that 2018 Test Item Generation Exercise marked a paradigm shift from the usual analogue system to a digital phase which according to him was time saving and cost effective.

While urging the participants not to lose sight of the ethics, integrity and credibility associated with the conduct of the Examinations and in particular, the generation of test items, the Commissioner noted that the outcome of the workshop would enable the Ministry to adequately and efficiently assess the prospective candidates for the Examinations.

Earlier, in his welcome address the Director, Examinations and Standards, Dr. Moses Bragiwa urged the participants to take the workshop seriously saying it would provide a unique opportunity for them to be taught on issues related to cognitive evaluation of children and the use of ICT to generate test items for the Cognitive/Placement and the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
