Charly Boy Criticizes EFCC’s Focus on Celebrities for Naira Abuse, Calls for Action on Serious Crimes

Nigerian entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, expressed his discontent with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over their focus on Nigerian celebrities for Naira abuse at social events.

He criticized the Commission for what he called “frivolous shenanigans,” suggesting that their attention should be directed towards more pressing issues, such as the theft of public funds by those in power.

Charly Boy specifically mentioned the arrest and arraignment of Paschal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, on a three-count charge related to Naira abuse.

He questioned the relevance of such actions to the well-being of ordinary Nigerians and the national economy, arguing that the EFCC should be concentrating on more significant crimes.

“Why focus massive energy, on frivolous, pedestrian, and harmless misdemeanor by people catching fun rather than going after those who use executive powers to steal humongous amounts from the public Treasury with reckless impunity?” Charly Boy wrote on Instagram.

The activist’s comments shed light on a broader issue in Nigeria’s fight against corruption and financial crimes. He believes that the EFCC’s actions against celebrities for spraying Naira at social events distract from more pressing issues, such as the theft of public funds by those in power.

Charly Boy’s remarks have sparked discussions on social media and among the general public, with many supporting his stance that the EFCC should focus on more significant crimes rather than the actions of celebrities at social events.

The controversy surrounding the EFCC’s actions against celebrities for Naira abuse highlights the need for the Commission to prioritize its efforts in tackling corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the EFCC will reconsider its approach and focus on more pressing issues affecting the country’s well-being and economy.
