Bobrisky Faces Money Laundering and Naira Abuse Charges in Court

Controversial transgender personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, to face charges of money laundering and naira abuse.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Bobrisky on Wednesday and granted him administrative bail on Thursday, but he was unable to meet the bail conditions.
Bobrisky was taken to court in a white Hiace Toyota bus under armed police escort by EFCC operatives.
The charges against Bobrisky include alleged money laundering of N180 million through his company, Bob Express, and tampering with N490,000 notes by spraying them at social events.
The first four counts of the charge accuse Bobrisky of abusing the Naira currency, while the last two counts are related to money laundering.
In one of the counts, Bobrisky is accused of spraying and tampering with N400,000 at a social event in the IMAX Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos.
Other counts detail similar incidents involving N50,000, N20,000, and N20,000 at different social events in Ikorodu, Ikeja, and Oniru, Victoria Island. These actions are in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
Additionally, Bobrisky is accused of failing to submit a declaration of the activities of his company, Bob Express, to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering.
The charges state that the total sum of N127.7 million and N53 million were paid into the company’s account with Ecobank between September 1, 2021, and April 4, 2024.
Bobrisky’s appearance in court marks a significant development in the case against him, highlighting the ongoing issue of money laundering and the abuse of Nigeria’s currency in the country.
