Nigerian dancehall singer Ahmedu Obiabo, known as Blackface, has accused fellow artist Shallipopi of allegedly stealing his song.
In a recent Instagram post, the 50-year-old singer shared a video comparing his track “Enemy Plan Enemy Fail” with a snippet of “ASAP” from Shallipopi’s new album, “Shakespopi.”
Blackface expressed disappointment and questioned whether other Nigerian artists could create music without copying his melodies or sound.
He also suggested that he may have to create a remix for the artists involved to abandon their projects.
This is not the first time Blackface has accused other artists of copyright infringement. In October, he claimed that Olamide had stolen several songs throughout his career, including sampling “Ikebe Super” in “Joha” without giving him credit.
In 2022, Blackface also accused Wizkid and Burna Boy of sampling his song without giving him credit.
As the Nigerian music industry continues to grow, issues of copyright infringement and song theft have become more prevalent.
Blackface’s accusations highlight the importance of respecting intellectual property and giving credit where it is due.
