Atletico Madrid is taking Barcelona to FIFA over the Spanish club's interest in Julian Alvarez. The move follows Alvarez's recent public statement that he wants to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this summer.
Alvarez, an Argentina international, made clear his desire to join what he called his "dream" club. Barcelona is widely believed to be the team in question.
Atletico's chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has now firmly rejected any sale to their LaLiga rivals. "It wasn't the right day to make such statements; it was a day for Messi and the Argentine national team, not Julian," Gil Marin told EFE.
He emphasized that while Alvarez may have ambitions elsewhere, Atletico has its own dreams too. "Julian has a dream, but we Atletico fans have dreams as well," the executive noted.
Gil Marin confirmed the striker had spoken to the club about his future. But he stressed Atletico has made its position crystal clear: they will not sell him.
Real Madrid had previously submitted a €150 million offer for the 26-year-old striker. Atletico rejected that bid outright.
