Atiku and Sanwo-Olu Support Nigerian Chess Master Tunde Onakoya’s Guinness World Record Attempt

Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya has embarked on a remarkable mission to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, and he has garnered the support of prominent figures such as former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar and Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Onakoya announced the commencement of the marathon on his X account, with the event taking place at Times Square in New York.

The chess master aims to play for 58 hours without losing a game, challenging the current record set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway in 2018.

In a show of solidarity and support, Atiku Abubakar tweeted his encouragement, saying, “Dear @Tunde_OD, I join millions of Nigerians at home and abroad in wishing you the best in your quest to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Chess Marathon. Your can-do spirit thus far has been truly inspirational.

I am rooting for you to break new ground. -AA.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also took to X to express his support, highlighting the significance of Onakoya’s attempt to take the story of his work with young children in Lagos to a global stage.

He wrote, “Taking the story of the phenomenal work you started in Lagos with young children to a global stage is a powerful testament to how greatness can emerge from anywhere.”

The event, which began on April 17th, has already captured the attention and support of Nigerians and the international chess community alike.

As Onakoya continues his quest to break the world record, his supporters eagerly await the outcome of this remarkable feat.
