Paul Merson believes Declan Rice deserves the PFA Player of the Year award more than Bruno Fernandes. Arsenal's former star made his case in a recent column.

Merson argues Rice has been single-handedly lifting Arsenal. The midfielder performs consistently in both the Premier League and Champions League competitions.

In his words, there's simply no real comparison between the two players. Fernandes plays once weekly, he noted.

Rice, by contrast, carries the Gunners week in and week out. He performs at elite level across multiple competitions simultaneously.

Merson acknowledged Fernandes is enjoying a strong campaign this season. But when it comes to Rice, the former midfielder sees the choice as straightforward.

"Don't get me wrong, Fernandes is having a great season," Merson wrote. "But in my opinion, when it comes to Rice, there is no debate at all."

He suggested the PFA should seriously consider the Arsenal midfielder for the honour. Few players have matched Rice's output recently.
