The 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin, on Saturday, denied a supposed plan to organise a 10-kilometre, three-day charity walk in Benin.
Capt. Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, issued a statement to refute an online publication that claimed the army planned the walk to mark the 25th anniversary of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA).
He said the report was false and fabricated by dishonest individuals.
“The 4 Brigade Nigerian Army has noticed a flyer on social media titled “A three-day charity exercise/10km trek 2023’’ to celebrate 25 years of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA).
“The event, according to the scammers behind the publication, is supposed to take place between Nov. 3 and Nov. 5, starting from the Officers Mess, 4 Brigade, Ekehaun Army Barracks, Benin.
“The brigade states that this flyer is from dishonest individuals, and the general public should please kindly ignore their request for funds.
“The brigade has made efforts to apprehend the criminals hiding under a reputable organisation like NAOWA to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians,’’ Sokoya stated.
He advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities, either online or within their vicinity, to security agencies for prompt action.
