The Nigerian Army has approved the establishment of a Model Defence Comprehensive School in Delta State, marking a major boost for education and national integration in the South-South region.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, announced the approval on Monday in Asaba during a courtesy visit to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Represented by Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, Chief of Defence Administration, General Musa said each geo-political zone in the country would host one of the Model Defence Comprehensive Schools, with Delta selected for the South-South.

“There has been a decision to site a Model Defence Comprehensive School in each of the six geo-political zones. The one for North Central is nearing completion in Kaduna, while the South-West’s is located in Ondo State,” Akpan explained. “We are delighted to inform the Governor and people of Delta State that we found the state worthy to host the South-South project, owing to Governor Oborevwori’s transformative leadership.”

He added that the project would bring national visibility and pride to Delta, saying, “We thank the Governor for opening the door for this massive project that will bring the whole country to Delta. It is something Deltans will be very proud of.”

Receiving the delegation on behalf of Governor Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, expressed delight over the development and pledged full cooperation for its swift implementation.

“This is a big honour for us as a government and as a people,” Onyeme said. “Out of the six states in the South-South, you chose Delta. We do not take this for granted. Delta is a peaceful state, and we will give every support to ensure the school takes off without delay.”
