The Bishop of Ozoro Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd Benjamin Idume, on Wednesday, led a high-powered Anglican delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Southern Delta University, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, pledging the Church’s support for the institution’s growth and moral development.
The visit came barely two days after Prof. Awhefeada formally assumed office as Vice Chancellor of the university.
The cleric, accompanied by Ven. E.O Agbawe and Rev Canon M.O Enaruvbe, were received by the Vice Chancellor alongside key members of the university management, including Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Presly Obukoadata, Registrar, Mrs Ejiro Etobro, Bursar, Dr Sylvester Kanayo Okoh, and University Librarian, Prof. Ogochukwu Emiri.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Awhefeada described the delegation as his first official visitors since assuming office, noting that their presence was both symbolic and spiritually significant.
According to the statement released by Dr Florence Chukwuebuni, Ag. Director of Public Relations of the SDU, the visit by the Christian community underscored the importance of faith, moral guidance, and spiritual values in the administration of the university.
“The delegation represents my first official visitors since assuming office, and their presence from the Christian community underscores the importance of faith and moral guidance in this administration,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He assured the Bishop of his readiness to sustain collaboration with the Church, adding that the university would remain open to continuous engagement and spiritual counsel.
Earlier, Bishop Idume said the purpose of the visit was to formally welcome and congratulate the new Vice Chancellor on his appointment and assumption of office.
The Bishop commended the achievements of the institution’s founding Vice Chancellor, Jacob Snapps Oboreh, noting that the establishment and growth of the university had contributed significantly to the development of Ozoro and neighbouring communities.
Expressing confidence in Prof. Awhefeada’s leadership, the cleric said his appointment signalled the beginning of greater accomplishments for the institution.
He further assured the university management of the Anglican Communion’s continued support, particularly in promoting spiritual growth and moral discipline among students through youth fellowship and ministry activities.
The visit climaxed with special prayers offered by the Bishop for divine wisdom, protection, and guidance for the Vice Chancellor and management team as they pilot the affairs of the university.
The courtesy visit further highlighted the growing partnership between Southern Delta University and the faith-based community in advancing holistic education, leadership, and societal development.
