Anambra SWAN lauds Soludo over state schools sports festival

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Anambra has commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for bringing back schools sports in the state after over a decade of its absence.

Anambra SWAN, in a statement on Sunday, described Soludo’s move as the best way to develop sports in the state and return it to its place of pride in Nigerian sports.

The SWAN chapter, in the statement signed by Anthony Oji and Chimezie Anaso, Chairman and Secretary respectively, declared support for the festival.

It also promised to collaborate with the organisers to ensure success.

“We commend the Soludo administration for bringing back schools sports in the state after over 10 years.

“We are convinced that this is the best route to returning Anambra to its place of pride in Nigeria’s sports and we are confident that the festival will guarantee the sustainability of sports development in the state.

“We hereby endorse the festival code-named ‘First Solution Schools Sports Festival’ and promise to collaborate with the organisers, the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, for optimal success,” it said.

Anambra SWAN commended the organisers, as well as the state’s ministries of Education and Local Government Affairs, for their collaboration in organising the festival.

It added that it was convinced that Gov. Soludo meant well for sports in Anambra and urged him to continue to support the sector with adequate funding.

“We call for them construction of more sports facilities across the state and the upgrade of existing ones so that our teeming young athletes can have in place an accessible sports environment to develop their talents,” Anambra SWAN said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Anambra schools sports festival will hold from Wednesday to June 24.

It will hold from the community, local government and senatorial district elimination series up to the state finals.
