The African Democratic Congress has named Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku Abubakar's running mate for 2027. Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and ex-transportation minister, emerged from the party's presidential primaries as the runner-up.
Party officials announced the decision on Monday through a formal statement. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's national publicity secretary, unveiled the ticket to the public.
According to Abdullahi, the pairing represents far more than mere political convenience. "It is the coming together of two tested statesmen with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity required to rescue Nigeria," he noted in the statement.
He described the ticket as a "unity and rescue ticket" designed to tackle Nigeria's mounting problems. Officials believe the combination offers voters a credible alternative option.
Amaechi's political résumé spans multiple leadership positions across decades. He served as Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, governed the state for two terms, and held the transportation portfolio at the federal level.
Few Nigerian politicians boast such balanced experience across legislative and executive branches, party officials argued. They contend this background positions him to support an ADC administration from day one.
The former governor also brings significant clout in the South-South region and beyond. His influence across Southern Nigeria would substantially boost the ticket's national appeal, according to party leaders.
Party leadership characterized the ticket as truly national in scope and composition. "Together, they bridge regions, generations, and political traditions," Abdullahi said of the partnership.
He credited both men with extensive experience in governance and economic management. Their combined expertise in public administration and nation-building would accelerate development nationwide, the statement maintained.
ADC officials expressed optimism about the ticket's prospects ahead of the 2027 general election. They believe it will energize the party's growing coalition substantially.
Leadership predicted the partnership would inspire hope among Nigerian voters. Party officials called it capable of restoring public confidence in government institutions.
