Alleged internet fraudsters: 11 OAU students arraigned by EFCC

The Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned eleven students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun State, for their alleged roles in internet fraud.

The students appeared before Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday, where they faced different charges brought by the commission.

The statement issued by Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity at EFCC, on Tuesday named the accused students as Perekebena Olombeni Micah, Nnekwelugo Nnaemeka, Moyosore Favour Oluwasakin, Aghwaritoma Wisdom Obaro, Daniel Olashile Maiye, Gbolahan Khalid Adesina, Yinka Temitope Jayeola, Olumuyiwa Emmanuel Adeleye, Abiola Emmanuel Oluwadare, Busari Abdulazeez Ayodeji, and Okesipe Tobiloba Paul.

He said that nine of the accused faced one-count charges each, while Micah and Obaro had six-count charges each.

The cases have been adjourned to November 29 and December 12, 2023, for the start of the trial.

The accused students are being held at Ilesha Correctional Centre, Osun State, until they meet their bail conditions.

He added that the suspects were part of 69 suspected internet fraudsters arrested on November 1, 2023, in the Oduduwa Estate area of Ile-Ife, Osun State, based on credible intelligence about their alleged involvement in fraudulent internet-related activities.
