Akwa-Ibom community honours DPO Sapele for fighting crime

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sapele Police station in Sapele, Delta State, Chief Superintended of Police, CSP Egong E. Egong, has been bestowed with an award of honour by the Akwa Ibom State Community, Sapele Chapter.

Speaking to journalist, the President of Akwa Ibom State Community, Sapele branch, Chief Bassy S. Bassey, at the event which held at the Richards Continental Hotel in Sapele, said the association was giving out the award because since the DPO took over the mantle of leadership in the station “not only crime has drastically reduced, his passion for the work and open door policy has taken security to another level.

According to him; one of our own is tackling security as never before with the support of the new Sapele Police Area Commander, ACP Mama Sale Rijau, is a thing we are all proud of,” Bassey said.

He however narrated how the DPO had rescued 15 boys from Oron in Akwa Ibom State who were brought to farm in a rural settlement close to the town,  and were not remunerated, and the role the Sapele Police Boss played in ensuring they were paid and returned back home safely.

Speaking also, Sapele Local Government Area Chairman, Hon. Chief Eugene Inoaghan, and the chairman of the occasion described Egong as hard working Police Officer.

Inoaghan who was represented by the Secretary of Sapele Local Government Area, Mr Blessing Abule commended Egong for his commitment to security, adding that other officers should emulate him.

In his response, the DPO thanked the organizers of the award and promised to work harder in order to sustain the tempo of success recorded so far.

He then dedicated the award to all the officers and men of the station who have been working tirelessly to achieve the present landmark recorded, saying that this award will only spur him into more commitment to the police job.

The occasion was well attended by Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers indigenes from far and wide including Bishop Ukpong. E Ukpong , (Patron of Akwa Ibom State Community,  Sapele branch) Mr Christopher A. Udo (Secretary) and host of others.
