The incident has sparked a wave of grief across the entertainment industry, with many celebrities expressing their shock and sorrow over the loss of their colleague.

The tragedy has also ignited a debate on the safety of actors on set, with many blaming the producer of the film, “The Other Side Of Life,” Adamma Luke, for not ensuring adequate safety measures.

Ini Edo, a prominent actress, took to her Instagram to express her pain and frustration, emphasizing that Junior Pope’s death could have been prevented if proper safety structures were in place.

“Jnr Pope did not have to sacrifice his life for Nollywood to realise the need for a long and much-needed regulatory structure that would safeguard an entire production,” she wrote.

“The system has to undergo a total overhaul with practical rules and regulations that cater to everyone in cases of emergencies.”

Toyin Abraham was another celebrity who expressed her grief on social media, admitting that she was unable to sleep after hearing the news.

She expressed her shock and sadness in multiple posts on her Instagram and X accounts.

Actor Michael Uchegbu voiced his anger and frustration over the incident, questioning the decision to take a small canoe on the River Niger, known for its strong currents.

He also criticized the lack of life jackets, stating that precautionary measures should have been taken.

Sarah Martins, another actress, slammed Adamma Luke in a now-deleted post, accusing her of not providing the necessary amenities for the film shoot.

However, her comments drew criticism from her colleagues, with Destiny Etiko and Uju Okoli calling for her to stop.

The death of Junior Pope has brought to light the need for change in the Nigerian film industry, with many calling for better safety protocols and working conditions for actors.

The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety in all aspects of filmmaking.
