AC Milan has fired head coach Massimiliano Allegri and several top executives following the club's failure to secure Champions League football for next season.

A devastating 2-1 home loss to Cagliari on Sunday sealed Milan's fate in their final league match. That defeat eliminated any chance of competing in Europe's elite club competition.

Allegri arrived last May tasked with returning Milan to the Champions League. He'd managed the Rossoneri before, departing 11 years earlier after his first stint ended.

RedBird Capital Partners, the club's owners, announced the sweeping personnel changes in a statement on Monday. They confirmed Allegri's immediate departure alongside other senior figures.

Chief executive Giorgio Furlani is gone. So are sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.

"After last year's disappointment, ownership set one clear mandate," the club said in its statement. "Return to the Champions League and build a winning foundation in Serie A."

Milan noted that the moment had come for fresh direction and comprehensive restructuring. The club's football operations needed a complete overhaul, officials indicated.

"We thank each departing member for their hard work and dedication," the statement read. Club leadership promised to announce new appointments soon.

Milan officials said they wanted to ensure proper preparation heading into the new campaign. Specific timelines for announcements weren't disclosed.
