Officers from the Violent Crimes Response Unit of Abia State Police have arrested a man for brutally assaulting a woman in a viral video. The suspect, from Abia North, was captured on camera repeatedly punching the woman in the face at Ogbo Hill in Aba.

In the footage, the victim is seen raising her hands and pleading for mercy as blows rained down on her face. He threatened to kill her throughout the attack, shouting in the local dialect.

Audio from the video captured him yelling repeatedly: "Ichoro mgbue gi, Ichoro inwu?" — which translates to "do you want me to kill you? Do you want to die?" The woman's desperate cries for help were heard in the background.

Outrage from the video prompted swift police action. CSP Emeka Amanchukwu, who leads the Violent Crimes Response Unit, ordered the arrest on Saturday.

Officers tracked down the suspect and took him into custody. He remains in police detention as investigation continues.

Anastasia Odochi Uchenna, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Aba Central in the 2027 election, condemned the assault as "horrible." She demanded prosecution of the suspect and called for proper medical care for the victim.

According to her, Abia State government and other agencies must step in to support the woman's recovery. She emphasized the need for justice in this case.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed investigation remains ongoing. She told reporters no charges have been filed yet.
