YABATECH urges workshop participants to utilise skills

The Acting Rector, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Mr Uduak Inyang-Udoh, has advised participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired at its four-day workshop on  “Skill for Work Project”.

Inyang-Udoh gave the advice in a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Mr Joe Ejiofor, on Tuesday in Lagos.

The workshop was organised by YABATECH in collaboration with College and Commonwealth Of Learning (COL), Vancouver, Canada.

He said that beneficiaries must the bring knowledge acquired in the workshop to bear and make an impact in projects of YABATECH, COL and the telecommunication world.

 

Inyang-Udoh said that the workshop attracted participants from the Computer and Telecommunication Engineers Association of Nigeria (COMTEAN), as well as staff and students of YABATECH.

He said that the initiative was to monitor the progress on COL skills for work programme  and support the apprenticeship project by YABATECH at the Computer Village.

The acting rector further said that the programme trained and inducted 120 participants into the competency-based programme to monitor the progress of COL skills for work initiatives

According to him, the workshop is facilitated by the COL Skills adviser, Robert Okinda, Dr Ibrahim Abdul, Director, Open Distance Flexible/E-learning, COMTEAN, and selected faculty members of staff of the College.

He said that during the workshop, the faculties from YABATECH and COL visited the Computer Village, a hub for skills and apprentice training, where they engaged in advocacy meetings with the master craft persons and apprentices.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that COL is an intergovernmental organisation established by the Commonwealth Heads of Government to promote open and distance learning education.

It helps developing nations like Nigeria to improve access to quality education and learning.
