The prospects for young scholars in Delta North have received a major boost as 90 students are set to commence studies at the Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko, under the fully funded Senator Ned Nwoko Scholarship Scheme.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the nine local government areas of Delta North, with 10 students selected per LGA, emerged following a rigorous screening exercise that concluded successfully this week. The scholarship covers both tuition and accommodation, ensuring that the students can focus fully on their academic and athletic development.
“This is a lifeline and an answered prayer for many families,” said Eze Onwenna, one of the supporters of the program. “Senator Nwoko’s commitment to youth empowerment is not just inspiring, it is transformative.”
The Sports University of Nigeria, known for its world-class sports facilities and academic excellence, will serve as the training ground for the new scholars. Beyond academics, the initiative is designed to instil discipline, leadership, and a spirit of excellence in the beneficiaries—values that Senator Nwoko has consistently championed.
Representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Senator Ned Nwoko has made education and youth development cornerstones of his legislative and philanthropic efforts. The scholarship scheme, he noted, reflects his long-term vision for societal reorientation and sustainable human capital development in Anioma land.
“This milestone is a strong testament to the Senator’s vision of societal reorientation and sustainable development,” Onwenna affirmed. “We look forward to seeing these young minds thrive and emerge as ambassadors of Delta North and Nigeria.”
With the screening now concluded and preparations for enrollment underway, the scholars are expected to begin their academic journey in the coming weeks. The program is already being hailed as a transformative effort that will positively impact education, sports development, and community leadership across the Delta region.
