2023 AFCON: Moffi Replaces Injured Boniface in Super Eagles Squad

Terem Moffi has been called up to replace the injured Victor Boniface in Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This comes as a blow to the team’s preparations, as Boniface had been a key player in their qualifying campaign.

The news broke on January 9, 2024, when the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that Moffi, who plays for OGC Nice in France, will be joining the squad as a replacement for the injured Boniface.

The change comes after Boniface suffered a hamstring injury while playing for his club, Bayer Leverkusen.

Moffi, who has been in fine form for his club, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances this season, will be eager to make an impact in his first major tournament with the Super Eagles.

He will join a star-studded squad that includes the likes of Ahmed Musa, Samuel Chukwueze, and Victor Osimhen.

Nigeria, who are three-time winners of the AFCON, will be looking to add a fourth title to their collection when the tournament kicks off in Ivory Coast on January 13, 2024.

The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.

With the tournament just days away, the Super Eagles will be hoping that Moffi can hit the ground running and help them to go all the way.

The 23-year-old is a versatile forward who can play anywhere across the front line, and his pace, power, and finishing ability will be a real asset to the team.
