Oredo LG first lady flagged off the Maternal Newborn Health Week

The Chairperson of Oredo Local Government Council, Mrs. Ndali Evbareke Osunde has flagged off the Maternal Newborn Health Week with a call on parents and guardians to make their children and wards available for immunization.

Mrs. Osunde said the exercise which is for women of childbearing age (15 – 49 years) and children (6 – 59 months) is to reach children within the age bracket with Vitamin A Supplementation and deworming.

She also said the exercise includes Family Planning, Birth Registration, Growth Monitoring, Exclusive Breast Feeding, and Antenatal amongst others for women of childbearing age.

While highlighting the gains of the exercise which includes saving children from preventable disabilities, the Chairperson commended the State Government for their commitment towards achieving all health related goals.

Sensitizing mothers on the need for children to be immunized, the Coordinator, Primary Health Care, Oredo Local Government, Dr. Marvelson Obasogie said Vitamin A strengthens the visual ability of the child.

While calling on parents to take their children to designated points for the exercise, he pointed out that the team will not be moving from house to house as letters has been sent to churches and other relevant stakeholders to participate in the exercise.

Highpoint was the introduction of Vitamin A and Deworming tablet to children by the Chairperson.
