Cyber Crime: Fraud stars now buy properties in parent’s name -ACP Rijau

By Esada Uyono,

The Commander, Sapele Area Police Command, ACP Maman Sale Rijau has raised alarm over parents and guardian complicity in wards perpetuating crimes, adding that parents are making it difficult to curb the growing trend of cyber crime.

ACP Rijau while speaking to Newsmen on his challenges since assumption of office as the pioneer boss of the new area command said: “There is this growing trend of Cyber crime and this is worrisome. These boys who are into cyber fraud, some of them as young as 17, now buy houses and cars in their parents name and when you arrest them asking them to explain the source of their wealth, the parents or guardian come to their rescue, claiming that the properties are for them and that has limited our drive to curb it.

“Sometimes in our efforts to address the problem, we have had to do stop and search too, which has been helpful. Some of them are into drugs and I must confess this has been handful.

He however commended other security outfit for their cooperation adding that the reason why the command has not recorded any serious incident like kidnapping in the past three months was because of the command dedication to stamp out crime, insisting that those arrested if found guilty has been charged to court” while appealing the members of the public to always pass information to the police.

On his relationship with communities under his command, he said “they have been very cooperative and the members of the community have realized that peace is very important and without peace, development will not be possible. They are very free to come to my office if they have any problems”, he added.
