Delta Speaker charges lawmaker to stick to delivering democracy dividends

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charge lawmakers in the state to always stick to the task of delivering democracy dividends to the people.

In a welcome remark on the resumption of plenary today, after the Christmas and New Year break, the speaker reminded his colleagues of the loaded agenda before the 7th Assembly and other issues to be addressed in the New Year.

According to him, lawmakers in the state had always performed their legislative duties for the common good of all, saying that the 7th Assembly had acted on a number of bills that had a direct and positive bearing on the lives of Deltans.

“And we will continue in that direction in this New Year. So far, at the end of the year 2020, the 7th Assembly has passed seventeen Bills into law and sixteen of the Bills have been assented to by the Governor. As we resume plenary today, we should be conscious of the demands of our office and as always be alive to them. Although we have a critical and congested legislative timetable ahead, we must be thorough in our work,” he said.

The speaker added, saying, “I would like to assure Deltans that since the 2021 Appropriation bill has been passed into law, we shall employ our oversight instruments to insist on accountability, probity, transparency and efficiency in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the budget. We must always stick to the task of delivering democratic dividends to our people.”

Oborevwori seized the opportunity to appreciate their constituents for their continued goodwill and confidence, stressing, “We must not waver in our commitment to upholding their trust in us.”

“Let us at this point renew our priorities and listen to one another more attentively.  The task before us is enormous but not insurmountable. My dear colleagues, we are equal to it and we will rise to any challenge that lies in our path,” he stated.

He commended his colleagues for the stability the house is enjoying in the 7th Assembly and implored them to continue to work as a team for the progress of the state.

He also said that; “I wish to commend your exemplary commitment, patriotism and conduct in the face of various daunting challenges in the year 2020, particularly with the outbreak of the ravaging COVID-19.  We are told it is not over yet. A second wave is currently with us now.”

“I give thanks to God Almighty for keeping us alive and particularly for His divine healing from the Covid-19 virus attack. On behalf of my family, I wish to express our profound appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and his family, my wonderful colleagues here and in other State Houses of Assembly and indeed everyone too numerous to mention, for your prayers and show of love towards me in the last few weeks,” Rt Hon Oborevwori said.

The Speaker added that; “More than ever before, we have a duty to diligently observe the safety protocols and guidelines as prescribed by the Federal and State Governments.”
