Spain booked their spot in the 2026 World Cup's last 16 after dismantling Austria 3-0 in their Round of 32 match on Thursday evening. Manager Luis de la Fuente's side delivered a commanding performance that justified their pre-tournament status as tournament favourites.
Mikel Oyarzabal gave Spain the lead in the first half, setting the tone for the match. Pedro Porro added a second goal in the 66th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Oyarzabal grabbed his second late in the game to complete a dominant display. Spain will now face either Portugal or Croatia in the next round.
The Spanish victory means 11 teams have now secured their places in the last 16. USA, England, Belgium, France, Brazil, Norway, Morocco, Paraguay, Canada and Mexico had already qualified before Spain's win.
