A 29-year-old sociology graduate from Kogi State University is dead. Blessing Moshood was allegedly killed Thursday night and her body left in a Jikwoyi canal.

Her sister Abigail told Abuja Metro what happened that evening. Blessing left home around 8pm after taking a phone call.

About an hour later, she called back with an update. She said she'd return briefly to retrieve her forgotten phone charger.

The family grew anxious when she didn't come home Friday. They'd heard nothing from her since that second call.

Word spread through the neighborhood about a woman's body in the canal. Someone mentioned the victim's hairstyle, and it matched Blessing's.

Abigail's mother broke down when she heard the description. Police from Jikwoyi Station had already moved the corpse to Mararaba mortuary in Nasarawa State.

The body was found half-naked, wearing only a top. Abigail went to the police station to ask questions about it.

Officers showed her photographs of the deceased. She confirmed it was her sister.

Neighbor Margaret remembered Blessing well. The young woman had earned a Second Class Upper degree and spoke excellent English.

"She was intelligent and very friendly here," Margaret told reporters. "The children in our area have been crying since they found out."

Another neighbor, Abdullahi Musa, wants action from authorities. He's calling for specialized detectives to patrol near Jikwoyi Medical Centre and tackle phone snatching gangs.

A police officer at Jikwoyi Station spoke on condition of anonymity. He noted the case remains under active investigation.

FCT Police Command spokesperson SP Josephine confirmed the incident yesterday. She said detectives continue working the case.
