Plateau's anti-drug agency has dealt a major blow to traffickers in the state. Between July 2025 and June 2026, operatives seized 9.4 tonnes of illicit drugs and arrested 1,587 suspects.

Anthony Tala Gotar, the NDLEA's Plateau commander, revealed the figures at a press briefing in Jos on Thursday. He was speaking during events marking the 2026 UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The command confiscated 9,488.186 kilogrammes of assorted controlled substances during the period. Gotar noted that the operations successfully disrupted drug distribution networks across communities in the state.

Both male and female offenders made up the arrested suspects. They faced charges related to various drug-related crimes, according to the commander.

Anti-drug operatives also uncovered weapons during their crackdowns. The discoveries underscore the connection between drug trafficking and violent crime in the region.

Officers recovered 486 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition. They also seized three locally made pistols and two pump-action guns.

Four suspects connected to the recovered weapons face further investigation. Security agencies have taken custody of these individuals for interrogation.

On the legal front, 71 drug offenders have been convicted and jailed. Gotar confirmed that multiple other cases are still pending at the Federal High Court in Jos.

The commander's disclosure demonstrates intensified efforts against drug trafficking in Plateau. It also reflects the agency's commitment to safeguarding communities from substance abuse.
