Woman, 23, docked for alleged assault

A 23-year-old woman, Chisom Iwueze, who allegedly assaulted a man, has been brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate LJK Layeni on one-count charge of assault.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Dr. Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 13, at the Alaba International market in Ojo.

He alleged that a misunderstanding had ensued between the defendant and a complainant, one Uchenna Eze at the Alaba market.

According to him, in the ensuing quarrel, the woman resorted to physical assault on Eze, and had punched his right eye, which resulted in serious injury.

The offence contravenes the provision of section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 17, for trial.
