Wizkid breaks down in tears at his mother’s funeral

The Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, was overcome with emotion as he laid his mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, to rest on Friday, October 13, 2023. The singer, who lost his mother on August 18, 2023, said he had never felt such pain in his life.

Wizkid said at the event, “I cannot find the words to express how I feel, and I know my family feels the same way. I know that the pain will not go away, so I’m not going to ask for that, but I know God, in his infinite mercy, will comfort us and help us move on with life. The pain is deep; it cuts through me. It is the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. I feel lost, but I pray and I trust that God will comfort all of us.”

The burial ceremony for the late Mrs. Balogun was held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (City of David), Victoria Island. Wizkid was joined by his father and siblings, who all dressed in matching gold outfits and shoes. The singer’s Nigerian manager, Sunday Are, also wore a similar outfit with the family.

Wizkid and his family held hands as they approached the casket where their mother lay. The singer sobbed uncontrollably as he touched the casket and bid farewell to his mother.

The late Mrs. Balogun was blessed with four children: Yetunde, Omolara, Olubusayo, and Ayodeji (Wizkid); and nine grandchildren: David, Boluwatife, Iremofetide, Moyinoluwa, Modesireoluwa, Ayodeji, Ireoluwaposi, Zion, and Michael.

Wizkid’s mother was described as a loving, caring, and supportive woman who always encouraged her son to pursue his dreams. She was also a devout Christian who lived a godly life.
