Withdrawal of Appeal: Urhobo group commends Emerhor, others

The Urhobo Nationalist Movement a political pressure group has commended Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Chief Cyril Ogodo and others for heeding the advice of well-meaning Urhobo leaders and religious leaders in the interest of the Urhobo nation in withdrawing the appeal pending at the Supreme Court over authenticity of APC leadership in Delta State.

 

It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin about two months ago, set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court, Asaba that recognized the Cyril Ogodo-led faction of the APC leadership in Delta State as the authentic state party executive.

The Ogodo-led faction had appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court but caving in to pressure from well-meaning Urhobo leaders, traditional rulers and religious leader, the appellant in the case, Chief Cyril Ogodo and the leader of the APC Mainstream, Olorogun Emerhor applied to the Supreme Court for the discontinuation of the case that has been fixed for hearing in October 14, 2018.

The leader of the Urhobo Nationalist Movement, Alh. Mumakai Unagha, while addressing the press shortly after the application for discontinuation of the case was filed at the Supreme Court, thanked Olorogun Emerhor, Chief Cyril Ogodo and others for heeding the advice of Urhobo leaders and stakeholders in the interest of the Urhobo nation, adding that it was for the good of all that litigation must come to an end.

He said: We the members of the Urhobo Nationalist Movement specially thank Olorogun Otega Emerhor, Chief Cyril Ogodo and others who have been involved in the struggle for withdrawing the case at this auspicious time in the interest of the Urhobo nation.  This, indeed, is a demonstration of the patriotic spirit which is required to forge ahead with the unity and reconciliation of the Urhobo people in the comity of nations.

We also commend the effort of well-meaning Urhobo leaders and stakeholders, traditional rulers and religious rules whose timely intervention led to the return of peace to the party and to the Urhobo nation.

The group however used the occasion to call on the other groups to seize the opportunity offered by the discontinuation of the case to usher in total reconciliation and progress of the party in the state, adding that the future of the party should be the prime focus of all members.

They called the followers of both Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Olorogun Emerhor to shealth their sword especially if the party want to take our Delta State in 2023; adding that there is no Victor no vanquished in the regard noting that it is for the interest of moving Urhobo forward towards the social political and economic development realities of our time.
