The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chief (Dr) John Odigie Oyegun has said that with the likes of Rev. Francis Waive, joining and seeking elective positions in APC, the party chances of winning Delta State come 2019 election is enhanced.
Oyegun stated this at his Abuja office recently when Waive, a House of Representatives aspirant for Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu constituency paid the party boss a consultative visit to inform him of his intention and ask for Oyegun’s blessing.
The elated Oyegun advised Rev. Waive to remain focus on his goal and show the class and activism for which he was known as Student Union Government president of the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma, adding that Waive is a good material that will add value to the APC.
Recall that while Chief Oyegun was the governor of Edo State, Rev. Waive was the SUG president of Bendel State University, Ekpoma, now Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, Edo state and had causes to engage the government on issues of student welfare.
Speaking earlier, Rev. Francis Waive said Chief Oyegun been a father to him, he felt it was necessary for him to personally come and brief the National Chairman of his aspiration and ask for his advice and blessing.
He added that Chief Oyegun that he knew as a Governor is a man with passion for excellence and was a father figure who paid attention to issues brought by the SUG body to his attention, and related well with the student body.
He stated that watching how the National Chairman has successfully stared the affairs of the party even with internal party squabbles; shows that Oyegun is a blessing to Nigeria.
According to Waive, “it is amazing how God prepares us for our future. I’ve known His Excellency since he was Governor of Edo State, as a SUG President and today he is the leader of our party, a party I seek to be its flag bearer to represent my people at the House of Representative.
“I will work with the advice that our national leader and other leaders have given to me in the course of our consultation, and I can assure them that when elected, I will not disappoint their confidence which they have reposed in me,” he added.
