Over 500 benefits from Emerhor’s Free Eye Care outreach

As parts of activities to mark the 60th birthday celebration of the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, over 500 persons from Evwerni and Enwhe communities of Ughelli North and Isoko South local government areas of Delta State, Thursday benefited from a free eye care treatment.

Emerhor, in his quest to give back to the society as part activity for his birthday celebration , would also be extended the free medical care programme to four other communities namely; Uwheru, Unenurhie, Ogor, Ewu and Iyede all in Ughelli North and Isoko South local government areas.

The Coordinator of the programme, Chief Collins Udi stated that free medical glasses and drugs would be given to beneficiaries of the programme irrespective of political or tribal affiliation, adding that the programme will continue move to other four communities as from Friday.

The Consultant who led the medical team, Dr. Austin Issah, said that there are prevalence of different eye problems in the Evwerni and Enwhe communities, adding that the free eye screening and treatment programme was timely.

According to him, “we have seen people with glaucoma, cataract and other eye defects who ordinarily would not have known, but with this free screening and treatment, many sights will be saved.

“We have been able to attend to all categories of eye problem including cataract and myopia.

“Irrespective of the number of persons to be attended to, we have the capacity and available to attend to as many that came for the programme.”

At Evwerni, over 300 aged women, men and some youths were giving refractive reading glasses and drugs, while over 250 people benefited from the programme at Enwhe community.

Some of the beneficiaries of the programme, Mr Jonah Jack, Mrs Patient Efetojoba and Mrs. Ofejiri Oketaire commended Olorogun Emerhor for the philanthropic gesture while calling other wealth Nigerians to emulate Emerhor’s good works.

According to Mrs Oketaire, said: “This is a privileged opportunity for me because I have been battling with my sight for years before I attended this outreach programme.”

“The medical team is doing a great job, they attended to me very well and gave me reading glasses, now I can see clearly while reading, I want to encourage Emerhor to keep up the good work and I pray God to should continue to bless him.
