Wike vows to end contract variations in FCT, warns contractors against substandard work

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that his administration will no longer accept contract variations in the FCT, saying that such practices have contributed to the delay and abandonment of projects in the territory.

Wike expressed his displeasure over the contract variations, which he said were too high and unjustifiable, during his visit to the Lower Usuma Dam in Bwari on Thursday.

Wike expressed his dissatisfaction with the contractor’s report on the Usuma Water System Project, which had gone from an emergency contract of N20 billion in 2017 to N50 billion in 2020. He asked how the contractor could justify needing another N900 million to finish the job when it was nearly done at 90 percent.

He said that he would not tolerate such variations and promised to reform the whole system to ensure openness in contract award and execution.
