Why I’m Leaving Comedy In 5 Years- Basketmouth

Bright Okpocha, a veteran comedian known as Basketmouth, has devised a five-year plan to quit the game and concentrate on other pursuits, such as music and filmmaking.

The 45-year-old disclosed this on Saturday, November 25, 2023, stating that he intends to retire after doing a series of yearly comedy shows for the next five years.

He added that even though he initially abandoned music in the 1990s to chase a career in comedy, he had always planned to go back to it.

His success as a producer and cast member of the hit sitcom My Flatmates confirmed his conviction.

The comedian stated that his aim is to establish his own empire and work in every facet of the entertainment industry.

He said, “In five years, I’ll be fifty; I wouldn’t want to be unfair to comedy, and I would have switched to something else that would demand a lot of my time. I want to give it my all.”

“I am sure that in five years, I will be able to merge all of my interests and fully enjoy films, TV shows, and concerts. Doing all of these things and still giving comedy your best will be hard,” he said.

The comedian said there is a chance of a comeback despite his exit plan.

“As a comedian, you can’t stop creating materials, so I’ll keep creating, and maybe in another 10 or 15 years from now, I might return. We have a 15-year plan,” he said.
