The Member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive, has applauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving the reconstruction of the ₦22.69 billion Udu–ECN Road, describing the project as a landmark investment that will transform transportation, stimulate economic growth and improve the lives of thousands of residents.

Reacting to the approval in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, Waive said the reconstruction of the strategic 20-kilometre road, including the two-kilometre spur to Otor-Udu, demonstrates Governor Oborevwori's commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure that will stand the test of time.

The federal lawmaker, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Rules and Business, noted that the road serves as a vital economic corridor linking several communities across Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas, adding that its reconstruction would significantly enhance connectivity, ease the movement of people and goods, and unlock new economic opportunities.

"On behalf of the good people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency, I sincerely thank His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving the reconstruction of the Udu–ECN Road. Your administration continues to execute legacy projects that will outlive all of us across the state, and we are truly grateful," Waive stated.

The project, which stretches from the Warri–Port Harcourt Expressway at ECN Junction to the DSC Expressway at Udu Road Junction, was approved at the 14th meeting of the Delta State Tenders Board for 2026, chaired by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme.

The contract was awarded to Niger Construction Limited (NigerCat) with a completion period of 18 months.

Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the approval followed sustained public concern over the deplorable condition of the road, assuring that the contractor has the capacity to deliver the project according to specification and within the stipulated timeframe.

Upon completion, the road is expected to drastically reduce travel time, improve access to communities, facilitate commerce and strengthen economic activities along the Udu–Otu-Jeremi corridor and adjoining areas, further advancing the infrastructure objectives of the Oborevwori administration's M.O.R.E Agenda.
